Obituary

Catherine S. "Kitty" McGinnis
"Mommom Kate" "Granmama"

Born October 20, 1922 passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 after she enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day with her family. She is now at rest in heaven.

Kitty was born, raised, and lived in Wilmington her whole life. She was the daughter of Frank P. (Flurry) Sullivan, he was on one of the city of Wilmington's first police forces, and Marguerite Whalen Sullivan.
She attended St. Paul and St. Elizabeth grade schools, the Old Wilmington High School, which she walked to, and Goldey-Beacon Business School.

She married Hugh "Muggs" McGinnis, Jr. and raised six children in Canby Park. They were always involved with the community. They used to have voters registration in their living room on Prospect Road. Kitty was a homemaker then went to work as a secretary for the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales Seminary Association for 23 years.

She loved to sing. She was a member of the Delaware Chapter of Sweet Adeline's. She traveled and competed with songs against other chapters in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

After retiring she was involved with the Women's Club of Claymont, Fraim Senior Center, and Fraim's Chorus Group, where they would travel to other senior centers and nursing homes to perform.

She moved into the Antonian and loved living there. She met many friends while being a hall monitor, working in the little store, and guarding the front desk.
She enjoyed being a member of the St. Anthony's Senior Center, where they would go on bus trips to the casinos in the area, shopping trips, going to shows in Lancaster, and visiting many restaurants for Friday lunches. She was also on the Wii bowling team that competed against other senior centers.

Kitty enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Sunday dinners and holidays. She was a cheerleader for all the kids sporting events and also the Philadelphia Eagles.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Muggs; her son, Michael (Elgin); her daughter -in-law Cindy McGinnis; and her second husband, Peter Iacono.
She is survived by her sons, H. James III, Francis P., and Kevin Sean (Geri); her daughters, Maggie Dobrzynski (Buddy) and Cathy McGinnis (Bill Jankowski); 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
