Catherine M. "Kate" Toner

Age 70, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Kate was the daughter of Peter Francis and Elizabeth Murphy
Toner. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1961 and attended St. Francis Nursing School. She was a lifelong resident of Old New Castle and a lifetime member of St. Peter the Apostle Church, where she was a member and Past Prefect of the B.V.M. Sodality. She also served as Chairman of St. Peter's Bazaar.

She retired from the United States Post Office after 30 years of service, and was an employee of Bowlerama for 25 years. She was an avid bowler and a member of Delaware Women's Hall of Fame.

She volunteered for the Cub Scouts of America, was President of Wilmington Postal Federal Credit Union, and was Secretary for New Castle City Council.

Kate is survived by her son, Peter Joseph Toner; her three grandchildren, Colin, Nicholas, and Pierce; her sister, Elizabeth T. Toy; her brothers, Peter F. Toner, Jr. (Paula), and Edward J. Toner (Judy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R. C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10:00 am. A viewing will take place at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 34 West 6th Street, New Castle, on Wednesday, November 5, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be in St. Peter Church Cemetery, New Castle.
