Charles Joseph (Albert) Brittingham (Mouse), aged 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on May 2, 2026, at 12:35 PM due to natural causes.
Born on September 11, 1936, in Wilmington, DE, Charles was a devoted husband and father. He attended St. Paul's School before pursuing a career in carpentry, where he received a Certificate of Apprenticeship in millwright carpentry. Throughout his career, he worked at Bancroft & Sons/Wilmington Finishing Company until his retirement in 1997.
Charles was a man of many passions. In his younger years he would play around with his harmonica. He was an avid bowler, participated in bowling leagues, and enjoyed watching horse racing ,football and playing poker. He loved crabbing on weekends, tending to his morning glories, and feeding the local birds and squirrels. His true joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Sophie (Kryworcki) Brittingham, his siblings-William (Billy) Brittingham, Esther Scalia, Johnny Brittingham-and especially his son, Brian Brittingham. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Bernice (Gralewski) Brittingham, as well as siblings Betty Messick, Theresa Schorah, Joey Brittingham, and Jimmy Brittingham. He is mourned by his children Linda Brittingham (Andy), Charlie Brittingham, David Brittingham, Charlene Streb (Chris), and Rene'e Giannattasio (Ronnie)), along with grandchildren Tara Streb, Steven Streb (Katie), Angela Lamborn, Ashley Giannattasio, Aaron Giannattasio, and Alexandrea Streb, and great-grandchildren Jensen, Skyler, Dixey, Dolly, and Hank.
A Memorial Service will be held on June 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, located at 1400 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19805. Friends and family are invited to gather for a public viewing from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Faithful Friends or the Ministry of Caring in Charles' memory.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
