Dana M. Martino
(Gurney)
Dana M. Martino, age 39, of New Castle, Delaware, was suddenly taken from us and placed in God's hands on December 11, 2009. She will always be remembered for the big, happy smile on her face, her bubbly attitude and her willingness to help anyone in need. Dana was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her children were the shining stars in her eyes and she cherished them with all her heart.
Dana is survived by her loving husband, Michael E. Martino, Jr., the absolute joys of her life, son Michael Anthony Martino and daughter Emma Rose Martino, mother April Conaway of New Castle, father William Gurney of Rehoboth Beach, step mother Ingrid Gurney, sister Gina Gurney, step sister Michele Alt, mother-in-law Patsy Dominick, sister-in-law Tina Klumpp and husband Richard, nieces April Conaway, Barbara Leary, Savannah, Rebecca and Jennifer Klumpp, nephew Michael Leary, and so many wonderful and loving friends and relatives.
Dana was a 1987 graduate of William Penn High School. She loved shopping, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She especially loved spending time at the beach. Dana also found great personal fulfillment in taking care of others such as those who predeceased her, including her grandmothers, Rose Conaway and Hattie Gurney, grandfather, William Conaway and aunt, Josephine Williams.
In life, two people sometimes share the most silly, loving and sentimental phrases. Dana and Mike's is "Scrim-Shaw". In the most endearing times, one would say "Scrim" and the other would respond with "Shaw". This phrase is their way of expressing two hearts beating as one.
We, as a family, will never forget the beauty that she had inside and out, her devotion to others and being the best mother, spouse, daughter, sister, aunt and friend that anyone would ever want. We will never stop thinking about and loving every memory that Dana has left for us.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter R. C. Church, 5th & Harmony Sts., New Castle, on Friday morning December 18, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. Friends may call at the church Thursday evening, December 17th from 6 to 9 p.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the "Michael and Emma Martino Education Fund" which has been established at any of the Wilmington Trust Branches.
