December 5, 1961- June 7, 2026
David S. Gunyuzlu passed from this life on Sunday June 7th, 2026. He was born and raised in New Castle Delaware and graduated from William Penn High School in 1979. For most of his career, David was employed in the banking industry and retired from Bank of America after 25 years of service. He remained in "Historic" New Castle Delaware with his wife Laura M. Gunyuzlu, living in their home in "the Greatest Little Town in the World."
David was an avid guitarist and had a lifelong passion and great love for music. In his younger years, he played guitar with his band "Bash", wrote and copyrighted his own original music and performed at various venues in the area, including the Queen Theatre. He also had a great love for cats, providing a loving home for his feline friends. David loved dining at the Legend Restaurant and picked his mother up every morning for coffee at Dunkin Donuts.
He is predeceased by his wife of 30 years Laura M. Gunyuzlu, his father Sami "Sam" M. Gunyuzlu and uncle Henry "Harry" A. Woerner.
He is survived by his mother Mary E. Gunyuzlu, step daughter Carrie Montgomery, granddaughters Cameron and Jana, brothers John Gunyuzlu (Annette), Paul Gunyuzlu (Cathy), Mark Gunyuzlu (Mary), sister Mary Lafrance (Paul), and many nieces nephews, great nieces, great nephews and his beloved cat Cooper.
A special thank you to ALL the staff at Complete Care at Hillside, including Jen, Deb, Nichelle, Lana, Brandy, Regina, Antonio, Romeo to name a few. Your support the last few months has been a Godsend. Also, thank you to Accent Care Hospice, especially Jade (David's nurse), Adriana (music therapist) and Minister Bill.
We will celebrate David's life on June 27th, 2026 at 2pm at Krienen Griffith Funeral Home, 10 West 6th Street, New Castle, DE 19720. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
