David
Schofield
March 30, 2026
Passed away at home with his family by his side on March 30, 2026.
Dave was born in Canby Park to the late Joseph and Gertrude (McKibbin) Schofield. He cherished his childhood growing up in Wilmington with his siblings and many lifelong friends. Dave was a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth Grade School and High School. After graduation, he continued on, earning his bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary's and master's degree from Wilmington University.
Dave worked for several years at the Port of Wilmington in the payroll department before answering his true calling to become a teacher. He was a dedicated educator at the Christina School District for 28 years.
Dave loved his community and gave back in any way he could. Whether participating in the first Bike to the Bay, and many after that, to cheering on the local high school football teams, especially St. E's, Dave was there. He was a fixture on his front porch and was always quick with a wave, smile, or story that was bound to hold up traffic. To know Dave was to know true friendship. He cherished time spent on nature walks with his sons and brother. He loved jury duty and was always fond of a good funeral. He was an avid supporter of the Phillies and Notre Dame Football and was well known for his ability to almost fix anything, for a day. But, most of all, Dave's devotion to his family and friends was second to none. Dave was happiest surrounded by his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph, John, and Nancy Danko.
He will be dearly missed by his doting wife of 32 years, Donna Schofield; his sons, Daniel (Hannah) Schofield and Devin Schofield; his cats, Trudy and Cutie; and his nemesis dog, Rudy. Dave is also survived by his brother and best friend, Mark Schofield; his sisters, Susan Scholfield (Brian Mulrooney) and Amy Schofield; his uncle Paul Scholfield; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 7 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilm., DE 19805. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. Interment will take place privately at Cathedral Cemetery.
Due to Donna's obsession with flowers, Dave has received more than enough and would ask contributions to be made to St. Elizabeth Education fund instead.
