Passed peacefully at home on January 17, 2019.
Doris attended St. Peter's School in New Castle and worked as a custodian at the George Read Middle School. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter's Church New Castle where she was a Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of St. Anthony's Club New Castle. When Doris was not serving others, she enjoyed trips to the casino, family vacations and attending every social event to which she was invited, even as her health failed.
Doris was happiest when surrounded by her family. A noisy home was a happy home and she welcomed everyone who came to her door with generous, warm hospitality. Friends became family and were treated to delicious meals and a sympathetic ear. Food, drink and especially love, were always dispensed when you visited Doris. She was a selfless, comforting presence to all who had the good fortune to know her.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Harry (Jack) and her loving children: Jackie Thomas (Bill), Lorie Thomas (Lee), Diane Coates (Bob Blakely), David (Judy), Michael, Debbie Di Angelo and Rocky (Mindy). She leaves five sisters, eighteen grand-children, twenty-two great grand-children, and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends who will cherish her memory.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Church, 5th & Harmony Streets, New Castle, DE 19720 on Wednesday, January 23 at noon. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Internment will take place at Gracelawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Peter's Church, New Castle.
