Obituary

Dorothy D. Barbas

Age 89, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 20, 2011.

A 1940 graduate of Wilmington High School, Dot was a long time resident of Elsmere. After high school, she did primarily secretarial and clerical work and was especially proud of working for the U.S. Navy at the Dravo Shipyard during WWII. She retired as a bank teller from Wilmington Trust after 20 years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Elsmere Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and was always active and involved in all of the activities of the church. She also worked as a volunteer for many years at the Wilmington Flower Market and at the Emmanuel Dinning Hall. Her greatest joy was her family and acting as babysitter, taxi driver, cheerleader, and dog sitter.

Dot was the daughter of the late Thomas and Stella Dyer. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Vietta and Maude Emma, her husband, Joseph Barbas and her son Joseph W. Barbas. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Barr and her husband Michael; her son, Tom Barbas and his wife Pat; her beloved grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Sara, Greg, Michael and wife Melanie, and Jeff and wife Lisa; and 4 great grandchildren, Hannah, Sam, Joel, and West.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the burial service at Elsmere Presbyterian Church, 606 New Rd., Elsmere, on Friday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., on Thursday evening, March 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment is in Silverbrook Cemetery.
