Dorothy E. (Gerhard) Carlson
Age 97, died peacefully at home on Friday, November 13, 2009
Dorothy was born in Philadelphia in 1912 and was the eldest of five children. She came to the Wilmington area in 1933 to make her home.
During her life she worked for both the Northrup Corp. and Freihoffer Baking Co.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Wilmington Club for the Deaf which her late husband, Adolph, helped to found.
Dorothy was a devoted loving and tender mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She always enjoyed spending her summers at their cottage in Maryland.
Dorothy was an avid card player, and enjoyed crocheting, crafts, and movies.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Hannah J. (King) Gerhard. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Adolph F. Carlson, and her daughter, Thelma Jane Gray who passed away one year ago.
She is survived by her son, Adolph Fred, III; her granddaughters, Kathleen A. Walz, and Lynn Meloni and her husband Brian; and 3 great grandchildren, Leigh Anne Walz, Mark and Angela Meloni; and her nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Tuesday morning, November 17th at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment in Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
