Dorothy Brownlee Mayberry
Age 70 of New Castle, DE, passed away on Fri., Oct. 30, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Dorothy was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph and Helen Brownlee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Joseph, James, and John Brownlee.
Dorothy was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls in Philadelphia, and upon moving to Delaware, she attended Delaware Technical Community College. Dorothy retired from The Boeing Company in 1999 after 15 years of service as a manager in the contracts department. Dorothy was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved traveling, and reading. She was also an avid Jeopardy fan. Her first love, however, was her family, especially her six grandchildren who range in age from age twenty-two to ten.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gerald Mayberry, and her three children, Helen Garvine, Kathy Freebery and her husband, Tom, and Steven Mayberry and his wife, Adrienne; her six grandchildren, Jackie Freebery, Tyler and Brett Garvine, and Ryan, Jack, and Sara Mayberry; and her three sisters, Marie Malloy of Landsdowne, PA, Helen Hickey of Ridley Park, PA, and Nancy Brown of Sea Isle City, NJ.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Michael Guarino and the staff at Helen Graham Cancer Center for all their care and attention during Dorothy's battle with cancer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Wed., Nov. 4, at 10:00 am at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 5th and Harmony St., New Castle, DE. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at St. Peter the Apostle Church on Tues., Nov. 3, from 6:00-8:00 pm, and also on Wed., Nov. 4, from 9:00-10:00 am. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Newark, DE.
