Obituary

Edward L. Hitchens
Age 79 of New Castle.
Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
Eddie was the 10 th of 11 children born to the late Harriett Marie (Lee) Hitchens. He attended William
Penn High School and joined the United States Army in 1963. When Eddie returned home, he went to
work as a pipefitter. He was a proud member of Local 74, formerly Local 80, for 57 years. He also was a
member of Good Will Fire Company.
Eddie was the ultimate outdoorsman. Some of his favorite times were spent fishing, hunting and
crabbing with his brothers, nephews, and best friend, Roy Taylor. Eddie was also involved with the
fireworks display for Separation Day and St. Anthony's Day Celebration in New Castle. Eddie had a kind
heart and always wanted to take care of those around him. He will be dearly missed by all that knew
him.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill, Mike, Anne, Bobby, Willis, Ida
Mae, Garry and Charlie; his nephews, Billy Hitchens and Timothy Scott; and his longtime companion,
Barbara Lewis.
Eddie is survived by his daughters, Kim Kirkley (Pat) and Nicole McVey (Carl); his grandchildren, Katee
(Sean), Oscar, Nicholas, Gianna, Joshua, and Layla; and his great grandchildren, Hope, Abigail, and Jake.
He is also survived by his siblings, Penny McMahan and Danny (Jim), and Barbara's children, Jennifer and
Chuck.
