Edward Patrick Houghton, born on March 9, 1964, in Wilmington, Delaware, passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2026. He was the beloved son of the late John and Evelyn Houghton (Horne) and cherished husband of the late Lisa Houghton (Forster) and brother of the late Michael Houghton. Edward is survived by his loving siblings that will miss him dearly: Debbie Ceresini (Phil), John Houghton, Jr. (Lisa), David Houghton, Kathleen Arnold (John), Sandy Smith, Michelle Farris (Dave), and Steven Houghton. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Kathy Parks, along with a large extended family of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ed was a proud graduate of Corpus Christi School and Delcastle High School. He dedicated over 20 years to Micro-Ovens of Delaware before joining the Sheet Metal Union Local 19, and then moved on to Amtrak, proudly retiring in 2025.
A lifelong parishioner of St. Matthew R.C. Church, Ed found joy in his community. He would always lend a helping hand when needed. He was a passionate gardener, golfer, skier, and fisherman, with a deep love for watching the Eagles and Phillies. He dearly missed his wonderful wife Lisa and we believe he died of a broken heart.
Ed will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew R.C. Church, located at 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE, which will take place on Tuesday, August 25th, at 12:00 PM. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Following the Mass, interment will take place privately at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be sent to St. Matthew Church.
