Edward Joseph Szczerba
Age 77, of Wilmington, DE, passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.
Edward was born March 15, 1932 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Peter John Szczerba and Veronica Szostowska Szczerba. He attended St. Hedwig's Grade School and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked at the DuPont Chestnut Run Plant for over 37 years. He was known for his great love of family and friends, his deep faith and his incorrigible sense of humor. He had a passion for athletics and politics. He was a former Mayor of Elsmere, DE.
Edward was also preceded in death by his brothers, John and Stanley Szczerba; and his sister, Agnes Cook. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Ray Szczerba; his children, Stephen and his wife Karen, Edward and his wife Florence, Karen Campbell and her husband David of Carmel, IN, Nancy Anderson and her husband Paul, Gerald, Peter and his wife Stephanie, Joseph and his wife Kathy; his sister, Theresa Pustolski and her husband Felix. He took great pride in his eleven grandchildren, Stephen and his wife Chelsea, Ashley, Elizabeth and her husband Larry, Edward, Philip, Julianna, Andrew, David, Ann Marie, Jacob, and Hannah; three great grandchildren, Christopher, Cameron, and Lidia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R. C. Church, 901 New Rd., Elsmere on Thursday, March 4th at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Corpus Christi Church Wednesday evening March 3rd from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
