Elaine C "Penny" Mitchell
Age 76 of Elsmere
Passed away March 30, 2016 with her family by her side.


Born July 4, 1939, she was a real firecracker. Elaine worked in Environmental Services at Christiana Hospital retiring in 2003. She loved to collect angels, crochet, working 9 piece puzzles and sit outside. She would get her exercise by walking around the thrift store looking for bargains. Elaine looked forward to her Thursday lunches at Wendy's with her friends and going to her son, John's, for cookouts, where she was sure to bring her homemade salsa.
Elaine was preceded in death by her brothers, Albert Flowers and Robert Flowers; her twin sister, Alice Jane Johnson; her son, Lawrence R Mitchell Jr.; and her great granddaughter Atlantis Y. McLane.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Christine McLane (Jim), Marla Petty-Criddle (Jim) and John Mitchell (Kathy); her grandchildren, Faith, Mickey (Danielle), Jessica, Christopher, Gage, Mitchell, Eric, Tiffany, and Carli; and her great grandchildren Jimmy, Sofia, Joseph and Andrew. Elaine is also survived by her brother Charles Flowers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services for Elaine on Thursday, April 7 at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720. Friends may call at the chapel from 10:00-11:00 am. Interment will take place after the service in the adjoining cemetery.
