November 19, 1952 - January 23, 2026
Faith Kathryn Zimmer, 73, of New Castle, Delaware , passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE after a sudden illness.
Faith, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and dear sister, leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and warmth that will resonate with all who knew her. Faith was fiercely dedicated to her children and grandchildren.
Faith's journey began in Chester, Pennsylvania, where she grew up in the Irvington Hills section of Chester, Pa. As a child she enjoyed many friendships and social activities at the Irvington Swim Club and with the Girl Scouts organization.
Faith attended the former St. Robert’s Catholic Grade School in Chester (now Drexel Neumann Academy) and continued to attend Mass throughout the years in this parish (now known as St. Katherine Drexel parish.) In 1970 she graduated from Notre Dame de Moylan High School in Media Pa. Continuing her higher education she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing at Delaware Technical Community College, Wilmington, DE. and licensure as a Registered Nurse. Over time she acquired many advanced certifications and was a part of the critical care team providing technical expertise and nursing care at Crozer Chester Medical Center Intensive Care and Recovery Services departments. Faith continued to work throughout her life and was on staff at MeadowWood Hospital and Bayada Home Health Care Services. Faith will be remembered as a kind and compassionate nurse who greatly valued the interpersonal relationships she formed with her patients.
Faith's gentle spirit and moderate temperament were not only evident in her professional life but also in her cherished hobby of watercolor painting. Faith also had a keen sense of adventure. Always willing to try something new, she traveled the world throughout her lifetime and even achieved certification as an open water scuba diver!
Faith was irresistibly drawn to celebration. Whether it was a holiday or a birthday, she adorned herself in her signature bling, embodying the zest for life that inspired those around her. Her vibrant personality and passion for connection were key elements in fostering lifelong friendships, particularly as a pivotal member of the New Castle Sailing Club for over 30 years.
In her later years, Faith continued her love of travel and ballroom dancing, a pursuit that led to a magical encounter with her husband, Jeremy, on a Caribbean cruise in 2017. Their fairytale wedding the following year symbolized the beginning of a beautiful shared journey. Together, they embraced life fully, with Faith determined to flourish even after facing health challenges, including a kidney transplant in 2022.
Faith is survived by her husband, Jeremy Gabbott, her daughters, Meredith and Erin McGovern along with grandchildren, Jordan (Erin) and Alivia (Meredith). Faith was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Clare Zimmer (Howley). She is also survived by her siblings: twin sister, Felicia Zimmer, Susan Zimmer, Judy Fecondo (Phil), Eric Zimmer (Barbara) and Clare Zimmer.
A memorial service to honor her remarkable life will be held on February 6, 2026, at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th St., New Castle, DE 19720, at 11:00am. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am - 11:00am. Interment will be private
In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that donations be made to kidney research in Faith's memory, supporting a cause that was close to her heart.
