Francis A. Brady, Jr. "Fran" passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 17th, 2017. He was born in Wilmington on November 17, 1932.
Fran graduated from Salesianum High School in 1950. He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War. Fran married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne, and together they raised five devoted children. He was a man of love, faith, patience, integrity, and Irish wit. He retired in 1998 from a lengthy career with NVF Co., Yorklyn.
Some of Fran's fondest memories were spent with family and friends in Dewey Beach as well as the cabin at Noxentown Pond that was shared with the O'Neill's.
Fran was a dedicated parishioner of St. Elizabeth Parish. He was also a member of the Irish Culture Club and the Wilmington Turners Club where he made many lifelong friends. He was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis A. and Nell (Mealy) Brady; his sisters, Eleanor Morrison and Mary Lemon; and his brother, Joseph Brady DDS.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne, of 63 years, and their five children; Kathy Mackin (Ed), Michael Brady (Suzanne), Karen Thomas (Craig), Andy Brady (Helena), Sheila Ruger (Tom); twelve grandchildren, Marci Sutsko (AJ), Alyse Haschak (Dave), Lindsey, Rachel, Caitlin, Kevin, Colin, Anna, AJ, David, Abagaile, and Ethan; and two great grandchildren, Chelsea and Tara. He is also survived by his loving sister, Margaret (Sister Mary Ellen, OP) and brother, John P. (Jackie) Brady, Esq. as well as his sister and brother in law, Nancy and Tom O'Neill and a host of nieces and nephews.
Fran will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth RC Church, Oak and Clayton Streets on Thursday August 24th at 11:00am. Friends may call on Wednesday evening August 23rd between 6-8pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home at 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere.
Burial will follow mass at St Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Elizabeth RC Church or Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr Ste 302, Newark, DE 19713
