Obituary

Francis Patrick Hackendorn, Jr.
Passed away at home on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
Pat was born to the late Francis P. and Marie B. (Maywell) Hackendorn, Sr. He was born in Wilmington and raised with his 8 siblings in the area known as the Flats. He attended St. Thomas the Apostle Grade School and Brown Vo Tech High School. Immediately after graduation Pat joined Pipefitters Local 80, which later became Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 74. He was a dedicated 55-year member. Pat took great pride in sharing his outstanding talent as a pipe welder with many younger members. He was always happy to teach his trade and enhance the careers of those around him.
Pat was the ultimate outdoorsman and loved spending time at the Duck House. He was an avid waterfowl hunter, fisherman, and crabber. Some of his happiest memories were when he was hunting, fishing, and crabbing with his family and friends. Pat was passionate about the Annual Bad Guys Wild Game Feast. For over 14 years, he organized, ran, and cooked for the event with his fellow outdoorsman and family. For over 45 years Pat cultivated a large garden each summer, which he loved to share his bounty with everyone he knew. He could be found many fair weather evenings with his "Nin" entertaining on their deck sharing the catch of the day and drinking some "chillys" with family, friends and neighbors.
Pat was a Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Through the years Pat enjoyed marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade with his family, spending time at Kelly's Tavern and was also a member of St. Anthony's Club, St. Gabe's, and the Police and Fire Rod and Gun Club, where he made many lifelong friends.
But most of all Pat was a family man. He loved his family more than anything and he will be greatly missed by all. To all who knew him, he was Cadillac!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Michael Hackendorn, John Hackendorn, Jane McComas, and Helene Clough, as well and his son-in-law, James Payne.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of 55 years and best friend, Linda Hackendorn; his children, Michael B. Hackendorn (Tammy) and Dina M. Payne; his grandchildren, Amber, Shawn, Shannon, and Mackenzie; and his great-grandchildren, Dilyn and Adrianna. He is also survived by his siblings, Clare Johnson, Barbara Yeatman, Susan Frie, and Lisa Hunt, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service for Pat on Sunday, Oct 24, at 1:00pm at Executive Banquet & Conference Center, 205 Executive Dr, Newark, DE 19702. To honor Pat's love of hunting you are encouraged to wear your favorite camo or Bad Guys clothing.
