Francis J. McCaffery

Age 78, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Christiana Hospital on Thurs., Sept. 9, 2010.

Frank was born in New Castle. He was a U S Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Wilmington Fire Department from 1956 until 1981. After his retirement, he worked for both Hoopes Fire Equipment and St. Mark's High School.

Frank was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and a loyal Phillies fan.

He was the son of the late Francis J. and Cecilia (Gallagher) McCaffery, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Aloysius McCaffery; and his sisters, Anne Bedwell and Marie Quill.

Frank is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Mulshenock) McCaffery; his children, Michael McCaffery, and his wife, Barbara, Kathleen Nemeth, Jerome, and his wife, Nancy, Eileen, and her husband, Patrick Bowers, Francis McCaffery, James McCaffery, and Theresa, and her husband, Dave Burch; his sisters, Cecilia Hoopes, Patricia Jezyk, and her husband, Leonard; his brother-in-law, Daniel Mulshenock; his sister-in-law, Marie O'Neill, and her husband, George; 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street & Bancroft Pkwy., on Monday morning, September 13th, at 10:00 am. Friends may call at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere, on Sunday afternoon, September 12th, from 4-6 pm. Interment is private.
