Galileo Leone DeAscanis
Entered eternal life on January 16, 2015.
Galileo "Leon" was born April 2, 1933 on Clayton Street in New Castle, Delaware, one of nine children. He attended St. Peter Elementary and High School, LaSalle College, and graduated from the University of Delaware. He served two years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Cold War. He worked with Guido DeAscanis & Sons Construction Company, and then was employed by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Wilmington and Philadelphia. He was a life-long member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was devoted to his patron, St. Anthony of Padua, and was a member of the St. Anthony Society. He dedicated himself to defending the rights of unborn children, in support of their very right to life.
He lived for God.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Guido and Celesta (Sterlicchi) DeAscanis; by two infant children, George and Mary Delia DeAscanis; by his brother, Amadeo DeAscanis; and by two brothers-in-law, William O. Lynch and Francis Lucia.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Patricia (O'Brien) DeAscanis; by his children Mary Juliana, Fr. Michael Anthony, Galileo Leone, Colmcille, Delia Tordea, and Antonio Giuseppe; by the spouses of his children Daniel Lehane, Mary (Gott) DeAscanis, Stephanie (Flowers) DeAscanis, Kapil Tyagi, and Kelly (Radulski) DeAscanis; and by eleven grandchildren: Liam, Finbar, Grace, and Brendan Lehane; Galileo, Edwin, and Saveria DeAscanis; and Alessandra, Teresina, Patricia, and Lidia DeAscanis. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters along with their spouses: Francis and Catherine DeAscanis, Caroline Lucia, Eleanor and John Garniewski, Gale (Noel) DeAscanis, Guido and Pauline DeAscanis, Dorothy Lynch, Rosemary and Robert Blakely, Joseph and Barbara DeAscanis; and twenty-eight nieces and nephews. He is fondly remembered by his family in Sant' Omero, Italy.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R. C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Friends are invited to a quiet visitation with the family at Krienen Funeral Home, 34 West 6th Street, New Castle, from 12 noon until 1:30 pm. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
