Gary D. Grimanelis, age 68, from New Castle, passed away on June 3, 2021 after a long illness.

Gary was the son of Thomas and Gertrude (Klaus) Grimanelis and was born on Long Island, NY. He spent his career working as a distributor and manager for Wonder Bread, and he retired about 10 years ago.

He was involved in and enjoyed many things in life. He obtained certification to teach diabetes management from Stanford University, CA. With this certificate, he was able to teach many, many diabetic groups about how to manage their diabetes. He made a significant difference in the lives of many who were dealing with the disease of diabetes.

Gary was an active member of the Boy Scouts. He was very patriotic and served as the Director of Where Eagles Fly military outreach program. He attended St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, DE and participated in many parish activities.

He loved to travel! He thoroughly enjoyed his trips to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Ireland, and went on many Transatlantic cruises. The highlight of his travel experiences was going to Rome where he spent hours in the Sistine Chapel and was part of an audience with the Pope in St. Peter's Square.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, June L. Grimanelis, with whom Gary is buried. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Tibbetts, his son, Christopher Grimanelis, and their mother, June. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Emily Tibbets; and his partner and best friend, Ellen Miller.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 10, at 12:00 noon at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle. A visitation will take place at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00-11:30 am. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
