Of New Castle, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2012 in his home at the age of 81.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, with whom he built their life over 59 years of marriage. At an early age, George enlisted in the U.S. Army and was part of the Army Corps of Engineers. Afterwards he worked many places in Wilmington but spent later years working for DuPont at the Wilmington Shops as a machinist.

He was also an amateur violist who inspired his daughter, the Philadelphia cellist, Vivian Barton Dozor, to pursue studies at the Curtis Institute. He was blessed with a gift of contemporary design, and his work survives him and continues to be enjoyed by his family, friends, and the community.
George was an early advocate for women's rights, and encouraged his daughter to become the first female graduate of a federal academy. His love of mechanics inspired his other two children to graduate from the United States Merchant Marine Academy as well. George's legacy is his four children, Ivy (Thomas), Vivian (Richard), Gregory (Lorraine), and Aileen), his four grandchildren (Thomas, Erin, Mark, and Harry); and his brother, Raymond Barton (Erma Jean).
