Obituary

April 13, 1954 – September 2, 2024

George Callahan, "Skipper", sadly passed away on September 2, 2024. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, George's life was a testament to his passions and his loving spirit.

A skilled carpenter, George's craftsmanship spanned a wide range of projects, from building sturdy patio decks to creating beautiful, custom furniture. His work was marked by a meticulous attention to detail and a profound appreciation for the craftsmanship involved.

In addition to his work as a carpenter, George found joy and fulfillment in his 25 years of part-time employment at the Disney Store, a role that delighted him immensely. His passion for Disney extended beyond his job; he loved visiting Disney World, where he embraced the magic and wonder of the parks. George was known for his extensive Disney knowledge, which he eagerly shared with friends and family, enhancing their experiences with his insights and enthusiasm.

In his later years, George enjoyed a well-deserved "retirement" working alongside his wife, Carolyn, in their blinds installation business. He was also known for his dedication to helping others, routinely donating platelets to the Blood Bank of Delaware as often as he was allowed, typically every two weeks. His selfless acts of kindness were a testament to his caring nature and his commitment to helping others.

George's love for Disney was matched only by his enthusiasm for traveling in his RV(s), attending live music events, and cherishing time with his grandkids and friends. He was also an avid reader and lifelong learner, constantly seeking to expand his knowledge and share what he learned with those around him. His warmth, generosity, and genuine spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he met, and he will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Carolyn Callahan, and his daughter, Stephanie Tantzer. He is survived by his daughter, Claire Krajewski (Jeff); his girlfriend, Leslie Glenn; and his grandchildren, Noah Tantzer, Olivia and Sophia Krajewski. George is also survived by numerous friends and family whom he loved dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere DE on Thursday September 12th at 11:00am.
