George R. Tressler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 18, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on October 19, 1937, in the coal regions of Pennsylvania, George's life was a tapestry of devotion, achievement, and unwavering love.
A proud athlete, George showcased his remarkable football skills while serving as valedictorian of his high school class. His pursuit of excellence led him to Bloomsburg University, where he earned a B.S. degree in education, setting in motion a distinguished career with Dupont in Delaware, where he dedicated himself for many years.
George's heart was forever intertwined with that of his childhood sweetheart, Bernadette Longo, with whom he shared 70 years of love and companionship. Together they built a life marked not only by shared dreams but by the warm embrace of God and family values. He was the protector and patriarch, a man of faith whose warmth radiated love to all who crossed his path, drawing people in with an inviting presence. His parting words, "I love you," resonate as a testament to his enduring spirit.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and George Tressler, as well as his beloved sons, George and David. His legacy lives on through his devoted wife Bernadette; his cherished daughter, Mary Beth Payne; his grandchildren, Jennifer, George (Chelsea), Julia, Jonathon, and Hannah; and his great-grandchildren, George, Gavin, and Chloe. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Cheryl and Dennis (Erma), who will forever hold his memory close.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike., Wilm., DE 19804, on Friday, May 22 at 10:30 am. Friends may call at the church from 9:30am-10:30am. The Burial will take place privately at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in George's name to St. Matthew's Church.
