Obituary

George D. Whitcoe

Age 86, died October 26, 2009, at Wilmington Hospital.

George was born and raised in Bristol, PA, and moved to Wilmington after serving four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. George, a General Motors retiree with 32 years of service, enjoyed his retirement traveling to Florida (as snowbirds) with his wife, Doris, creating his shell crafts, and making friendships and happy memories along the way.

George was an active member and trustee of the Wilmington Turners, where he met many of his life-long friends. He was also a member of VFW Diamond State Post, the American Legion (Durney) Post, Defiance, Elks, Newark Moose, and Oriental Masonic Lodge, where he served as chaplain.

George is preceded in death by his son, Edward J. Whitcoe. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris (Pullen) Whitcoe; his daughter, Cynthia Wray of Millersville, MD; his sister, Faye Spinosa, of Allentown, PA, and his beloved grandchildren, Brad and Randy Wray, and Stacey and Melissa Whitcoe.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere, on Sat., Oct., 31st at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening, Oct., 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Interment in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Donations in his honor may be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
