After a long, courageous battle, Gerry succumbed to lung disease on October 3, 2014 with his loving family at his side. Gerry fought to the very end, yet maintained his great sense of humor and concern for others throughout. Born on June 24, 1962 to Donald and Marie Griffith, Gerry lived his entire life in Elsmere, where he met the love of his life, Ann Colicchio. Gerry and Ann married in March of 1991 and soon began expanding their family, with the births of son, Jason, and daughter, Jessica.
Gerry was a simple man who enjoyed the basic things. More than anything, he enjoyed his family, with extra special joy coming from his grandson, Jayden. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed his position as supervisor of the Catholic Cemeteries of Wilmington where he worked since 1996. Always wanting to provide for his family, he continued to work as long as he could, even as he felt the draining effects of the disease and chemo treatments. He was a fighter! Gerry attended Delcastle Vo –Tech High School, finishing his formal education in 1980. Gerry continued to learn throughout work and life experiences and he shared his wisdom with those around him.
In addition to his parents, Gerry in preceded in death by his brother, Donny.
Along with his wife, children and grandchild, Gerry is survived by his sister, Lynn Fuqua (Jim); brothers Doug (Ann), Dave (Audrey), Dan (Kathy), and Jim (Peggy); and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R. C. Church, 901 New Road, Elsmere, DE 19805, on Thursday, Oct 9, 2014 at 10:30 am. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805 on Wednesday, Oct 8, 2014 from 6:00 pm -8:00 pm. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank all those who provided compassionate care to Gerry during his illness.
