Gerard Brendan
Lynch
Nov 6, 1966 — Oct 4, 2026
Wednesday
Saint Joseph on the Brandywine
Starts at 10:30 am (Eastern time)
Gerard Brendan Lynch, affectionately known as “Gerry,” passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, at the age of 59, with his daughter Samantha, his brother Philip, and his sister Cecelia at his side. He was at total peace toward the end of his life.
Born on November 6, 1966, in Wilmington, Delaware, Gerry was the tenth of eleven children born to Joan N. (Parsons) Lynch and the late Philip B. Lynch Sr. He grew up in the Highlands and Forty Acres neighborhoods, attending St. Ann School before graduating from Howard High School, where he studied auto body work. He later pursued college coursework in criminal justice.
Gerry went on to dedicate his entire career to the care and stewardship of the Bayard Sharp estate. Alongside his brother, Bill, he served as the estate’s devoted groundskeeper until his retirement. He took immense pride in cultivating the natural beauty of the land and possessed a profound passion for tending to the estate's Belted Galloway cattle. Outside of his career, Gerry was a true craftsman—affectionately known to many as “the Wood Whisperer”—with an affinity for refurbishing furniture and restoring antiques to their original condition.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Gerry walked through life with God always in mind and a heartfelt devotion to Jesus Christ and an affinity for His Blessed Mother. His faith was reflected in the way he treated others—with complete honesty, integrity, and authenticity. Gerry took immense pride in being a man of his word, meaning every word he said and speaking with deliberate purpose and heart. He was a deeply patriotic man who loved his country and lived his life by a simple, powerful creed: loving his family, caring for his neighbors, and spreading goodness wherever he went. Above all, he was a faithful friend and the world’s best Pop Pop.
He is survived by his mother, Joan P. Lynch; his daughter, Samantha Getinet (Nebiyou); his beloved grandchildren, Ryan (10), Mila (9), Nora (7), and Owen (4); and his cat, Luna. He also leaves behind his sisters, Sheila, Sharon (Richard), Susan (Keith), Shirley, Joanie (Conrad) , and Cecelia; and his brothers, Philip and Andy (Amy). He was preceded in death by his father, Philip B. Lynch Sr.; his brother, William “Bill” L. Lynch; his sister, Sandra “Sandy” J. Fidance; his grand-nephew, Gabriel C. Money-Jackson and his brother in law Conrad Stuntz.
Gerry’s memory will be deeply cherished. He would want his friends and family to be happy and joyful, sharing stories and laughs in his remembrance. Of all the money that e'er I had,
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that e'er I've done,
Alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall;
So fill to me the parting glass,
Good night and joy be with you all.
