Obituary

Hugo Frederick Bourdon, III passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7th at Christiana Hospital. "Fred" was born in Wilmington on November 29, 1949, to H. Fred and May (Windsor) Bourdon. Fred was a proud graduate of Salesianum School and Mount Saint Mary's University.

Fred was the owner of the Jackson Inn — a true Delaware Landmark. His kindness and generosity defined him and made him the perfect and welcoming host. His customers were family to him. If you knew Fred, you were his friend. He was beloved by patrons, legions of friends, classmates and the easiest man to speak with and first to lend an ear and helping hand to friend and stranger.

Fred had many diverse interests and talents. He was an accomplished professional photographer, a talented saxophonist and avid record collector. Fred often served as a photographer for President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and his family during his time as a United States Senator.

Fred taught linguistics at the University of Delaware. He was a member of Mensa International and the Saint Vincent DePaul Society. A man of deep faith, Fred attended Saint Thomas the Apostle and Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Churches.

Fred was predeceased by his parents and sister, Margaret Mary. He is survived by his best friend and partner, Eva Hughes; sister, Barbara (Richard) Burd; niece, Tracy Sharon; great niece, Teddy Elliman; and great nephew, Gerrit Elliman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 20th at 2pm at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church at 10 Old Church, Wilmington, Delaware 19807 where friends may call from Noon until 2pm. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's name to Gift of Life, 401 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19123.
