James Joseph Hiner of Collins Park, in New Castle, died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, 1 March 2015, at 51 years of age.
"Jay" was a forceful person of great personal charm. He brought enthusiasm to his activities, pitching in with energy when he thought he could be of help. Jay was a skilled carpenter and an avid sportsman; hunting, fishing, and boating. He was also a passionate, even fierce, partier. He made friends easily and inspired loyalty and endurance in his friends, even when he was himself the source of frustration.
Jay had a deep and tender longing for his sons in whom he took great pride. He loved and drew strength from his mother's patience as well as from the unbreakable bond between him and his life-long friend and brother, Rob.
Jay is survived by his mother, Doll (Barbara E. Hiner, nee Freebery); his sons, James Joseph II ("JJ") and Kyle; their mother, Lynda; his beloved sisters, Michele (Derryberry) and Kimberly (Despointes); his brothers, John and Rob; and his sisters in law, Melanie and Almeda. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.
All are welcome to recollect Jay's life from 10 to 11 AM on Monday 9 March 2015 at Holy Spirit Church, 12 Winder Rd, New Castle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. The committal service will follow immediately at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Hiner Boys' Educational Fund care of Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway Elsmere, Wilmington, DE 19805.
