James T. Kirk
Age 77, of New Castle, died peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2009 surrounded by his family and other friends after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Jim retired from the DuPont Co. in Wilmington after 38 years of service as a System Engineer.
Jim was a 1950 P.S. DuPont High School graduate. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served his country during the Korean War. After the service he attained an Associate Degree from the University of Penn Wharton School of Business.
Jim has been a member of the St. Peter R. C. Church in New Castle for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society and served as a lecture and was one of the First Chairman of the Carnival Committee. He also participated in the Men of Malvern Retreat for many years.
Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and loved spending time with his family at the beach.
Jim was the son of the late Hubert G. and Mildred (Roberts); he was also preceded in death by his brother, Gary H. Kirk. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leontia (Lancaster) Kirk; his sons, Fr. James T. Kirk, Jr., Kenneth G. Kirk, Gerard S. Kirk Sr. and his wife Lori, Thomas G. Kirk and his wife Julie; and his beloved grandchildren, Andrew (AJ), Catherine (Carrie), Morgan, Gerard (Dude), Bryan, and Dylan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter R. C. Church, 5th & Harmony Sts., New Castle on Tuesday, July 21st at 12 noon. Friends may call at the church Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment in the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle.
