Passed away on January 5, 2015 at Cadbury of Lewes, Lewes, DE where he resided for the last 5 years of his life. Prior to his residence at Cadbury, Jim was a lifelong resident of New Castle, DE. Jim was born on October 28, 1917 the youngest son of John J. and Catherine (Jordan) Sheridan.
In 1939, Jim married his wife of 60 years, Margaret Palmer, also of New Castle. Together they raised children. Jim retired from the DuPont Company, Louviers Building, in 1979. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Goodwill Fire Company, New Castle. He was also a lifelong member of St. Peter the Apostle Church, New Castle. Following the Phillies and Notre Dame football were interests that Jim enjoyed and he shared his enthusiasm with many of the residents at Cadbury.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret, in 1999; his 3 brothers, Paul, John Jr., and Eugene Sheridan; his 6 sisters, Helen Linus, Ann Peden, Elizabeth Griffin, Catherine Gebhart, Sara Roarty, and Agnes Sheridan; and his granddaughter, Tracy. Left to cherish his memory are his children, James V. Sheridan, Jr. (Carol) of Anchorage, AK; Thomas Patrick Sheridan (Ann) of Houston, TX; Mary Fuller of Columbia, SC; and Peggy Kernehan (Ron) of Lewes, DE. Jim leaves behind five granddaughters: Michele Lyerly (Ted) of Greenville, SC; Lisa Smith (Bradley) of Columbia, SC; Catherine Watkins (Jerry) of Palmer, AK; Rebecca Sheridan of Anchorage, AK; and Colleen Kernehan Best (Andrew) of Milton, DE; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 521 5th Street, New Castle, DE on Thursday, January 15 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in the adjoining cemetery. The viewing will be private.
