Jane F. Smiley (Cadden)
Age 88 of Wilmington, Delaware
Passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Manor Care of Wilmington.
She was born on July 1, 1926 in Canton, Ohio.
She met her loving husband, Robert A. Smiley, while working as a nurse and eventually settled in Wilmington, DE.
She graduated from St. John's High School in 1944. She went on to earn a degree in nursing from Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware followed by being an office nurse for various Wilmington surgeons. After retiring, she worked at Boyd's Flowers designing floral arrangements.
She was a long time member of the Garden Gate Garden Club where she held different offices. Jane was a volunteer at Winterthur for 10 years and Hagley Museum for 26 years. Jane was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where she served on many different committees, most importantly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Jane is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert, her 10 children, Sally Dodds (Richard), Robert (Paula), Terry Pizzarello (Jim), Joseph Smiley (Kerry), Thomas Smiley (Esther), Michael Smiley (Tammie), Andrew Smiley (Kristine), Tony Smiley (MaryKate), Joanie Smiley, and Amy Platt (Michael), her sister Lena Ehret of Canton, Ohio, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE. A visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Newark Union Cemetery.
