Obituary

Jerome K. Smith

Age 92, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024.

Jerry was born in Buchanan, Missouri to the late Charles and Frances (Yates) Smith. He was a US Army Veteran faithfully serving his country during the Korean War. After the service he moved to Lancaster, PA where he worked for several years at RCA before moving to Delaware. Jerry was a dedicated employee of DuPont for 40 years working in the Chestnut Run Plastics plant. He even worked part-time at the Brandywine Racetrack.

In his downtime, Jerry loved to play softball and golf and was in many leagues throughout the years. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. He was a gifted singer. Jerry was a proud member of the Chorus of the Brandywine, as well as an avid fan and volunteer of the Blue Rock Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a character who loved telling jokes, usually on senior center bus trips and family get-togethers. But most of all, Jerry loved his family.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 73 years, Vera Smith; his daughter, Debbie Baker (Butch); his son, Don Smith (Pam); his grandchildren, Sean Baker of North Carolina, Ryan Baker of California, and Marie Smith (David) of Elsmere; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Jerry will be interred privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
