Joan Connor of NY, NY, died peacefully after a long illness on June 21, 2013 at Isabella Geriatric Center in New York.

Joan was born to John and Mary Connor (Sweeney) and raised in Wilmington, DE. After graduating from St. Elizabeth's High School in Wilmington and Mount St. Scholastica College in Kansas she became completely dedicated to her teaching career. She taught at 'The High School of Fashion Industries' where she received 'Teacher of the Year Award' before retirement.

Joan was dearly loved by family and friends. She loved education, basketball, world travel, and New York where she had been in the Columbia University Doctoral English Program.

Joan was preceded in death by her sister Marie Connor. She is survived by her siblings and in-laws: James Connor and Sharon Kahkonen of Asheville, NC, Janet and Francis O'Rourke of Ocean City, NJ, and Jerome and Patricia Connor of Brick, NJ. Joan was a very loving and devoted Aunt to 12 nieces and nephews. She is remembered fondly by many close and devoted friends especially Veronica Beirne and Mona Kurnit along with the Kansas gals. Joan lived life to the fullest. She dearly loved her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth R. C. Church, Oak and Clayton Sts., Wilmington on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11 am. Interment is private.
