Joanne Margaret Hartnett (Truitt)
Departed to be with our Lord on April 18, 2015.
Born on October 23, 1933 in Wilmington, Joanne was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. After graduating from P.S. duPont High School in Wilmington, she worked as a switchboard operator at the Diamond State Telephone Company. She married and was a homemaker for many years raising six children of her own and provided childcare for many others at her home daycare. She loved children, sewing, cooking, gardening and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph R. Truitt Sr. and Margaret Bryner Truitt; her sister, Margaret T. (Peggy) Ferver, two grandchildren, Angella H. Bowen and Ryan S. Hartnett, and her son-in-law, Kevin D. Cooke.
She is survived by her six children, Elise H. Nelson (Roberto), John J. Hartnett III (Ruth), Cheryl H. Cooke, Jill H. Hagelstein, Tammy H. Ahadi (Reza), and Mary Beth H. Culley; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Kathryn Brenner (Jacob), Patricia Ann Mousley, Mary Ann Shields (Joseph), Barbara Beckmeyer; her brothers, Joseph R. Truitt, Jr. (T Jean), and John F. Truitt, Sr. (Debbie).
Relatives and friends are invited to the Service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere, on Monday, April 27, at 11:00 am. A visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 on Monday morning. Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
