John Diffley at the age of 75, passed away in the comfort of his own home on the evening of December 28, 2022.
John is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Sarah; siblings, Andrew Diffley and Roma Geary; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene, his sisters, Shelia and Rosemary.
John was born in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland, at 5 years old he traveled with his family to the United States. John joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, being stationed in the Philippines and California. He had a love for sailing and fishing. John was captain of several of his own vessels, he was an avid member of Hanas Point Yacht Club and Wilmington Power Squadron, teaching several classes for boating skill and celestial navigation. John was a devoted father. Besides his own daughter, he and Martha hosted 18 international high school exchange students from all over the world. John enjoyed raveling and learning about history, aeronautics, astronomy.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 6 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Krienen Funeral Home, 101 W 6th St., New Castle, DE 19720. The interment will take place privately.
