John G. Murphy
Of New Castle, age 94, died peacefully at home on May 26, 2012, where he was loved and cared for by his daughter and family.
John was a life member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in New Castle. He was an alumnus of St. Peter's High School 1938 and Goldey Beacom School of Business 1955. He worked for Delaware and New Jersey Ferry Co. 1938 to 1940. He was a WWII Army veteran (Battery H, 198th Battalion) from1940 to 1945. He was a life member of the VFW. John retired in 1985, after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a life member of the Good Will Fire Co. No.1 in Old New Castle where he had held the offices of treasurer and secretary for a number of years. He was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order St. Patrick's Fraternity. John had also been an active volunteer for Emmanuel Dining Room.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean, just three months ago. John was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward; and sisters, Elizabeth Toner, Helen Keenan and Jean O'Hara. He is survived by his only daughter, Regina M. Olliver and her husband Michael; four grandchildren; Christina, Mary Beth (and her fiancé Andrew Williams), Patrick, and Robert; two great grandchildren, Hanna and Michael, and two future great grandchildren Jared and Sean Williams.
Our family would like to give a special thank you to the Heartland Hospice staff especially Desiree, Jeanaye, Lori, Paul, Courtney, Denise and Dr. Larry Shusterman, for all your love and support.
Thank you also to Dr. Padmalingam for the loving care you provided to Dad for the past 35 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter R. C. Church, 5th & Harmony Sts., New Castle, on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11 am. Friends may call at the church from 9:30-11 am Saturday morning. Interment in St. Peter R. C. Church Cemetery.
