John H. Schmidt, Sr.
Of Elsmere, age 66, died peacefully Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Diamond State VFW Post 2863.
John loved fishing with his grandchildren and playing golf with his friends.
He was the son of the late Catherine Schmidt. He is survived by his partner of 38 years, Bonnie Williams; his father, Edward W. Schmidt, Sr.; his son, John Schmidt, Jr.; stepsons, Ken Williams, Michael Williams and his wife Bobbi; grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Joshua, Kelsie Williams; brothers, Edward Jr., Richard, Robert, Ronald, Thomas, and Gerald Schmidt; sisters, Carol Melson, Deborah Janvier, Barbara Tjaden, Marsha Manning, and Charlotte Schmidt.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE, on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 promptly at 1 p.m. Interment in adjoining cemetery.
