Joseph (Joe) T Cashman
Passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024 from complications from a fall at the age of 92.
Joe was born in Newburyport, MA on September 5, 1931 to Joseph Cashman and Beatrice Hosman Cashman.
Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
Joe is predeceased by his parents, 6 siblings, brother-in-law Erve Thatcher and his wife, Ann Thatcher. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edith Thatcher Cashman, children, Kevin and Cindy Koser, Chris and Marybeth Cashman, Karen and Charles Hunt, Linda and Rob Caso; his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa Joe, CJ Hunt(Aly), Katie Weaver(Josh), Elissa Dalton(Connor), Haley Witmer(Hunter), Beth Hunt Caporaletti(Eri); Isabella Caso Setayesh(Nick), Max Caso; great-grandchildren Beau and Marley Weaver, Eleanor(Nora) and Claire Dalton, Sterling Witmer, Giorgio and Gianni Caporaletti and Eva Caso Setayesh, sister-in-law Dianne Thatcher Tattersall and her husband Bob "T" Tattersall. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews , grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Joe was a friend to many. He is predeceased by his friend, Danny Susi. He is also survived by extended family, Chris Castagno, Terry Buchanan, Bruce and Eileen Burk.
Joe proudly served in the United States Navy from April, 1951 to October, 1954. He graduated from Frankin & Marshall College in 1959, Cum Laude. His profession for many years was a Certified Public Accountant.
Joe and Eadie met at Merryland Roller Rink in 1953 when he was stationed at Bainbridge Naval Station. They married May 28, 1955 in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, New Castle, DE.
Rev. Jeremiah Cashman, Joe's brother, newly ordained, performed the ceremony, his first.
Joe was an avid reader and patron of the New Castle Library. He was known to read a book in one to two days. He loved day trips to Rehoboth Beach. While there he enjoyed sitting on the boardwalk eating Thrasher's Fries, dinner at 1776 Steakhouse and eating brunch at Egg, owned by one of his favorite people, Missi Postles. Joe loved to take family and friends to Walter's Steakhouse.
Joe was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams to watch were the Boston Celtics, Duke Basketball and all Wilmington Friends School sporting events, but closest to his heart were the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Sports were usually on the TV whenever you walked into the house.
He looked forward to his weekly Old Man Happy Hour where he was surrounded by friends, but the center of attention.
Joe enjoyed going back to the picturesque towns of Newburyport and Plum Island, MA to visit family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 31 at 11:30am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle, DE 19720. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, July 31 from 10:30am to 11:30am. Interment will be private at a later date.
