Joseph Martin Flynn
"Pop"
Age 84, of Wilmington, DE, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Veterans Hospital, Elsmere, DE.
Joseph was born in Wilmington to Ella (Harper) Flynn and Thomas J. Flynn, Sr.
He served in the 3rd Army in WWII as a Private First Class Rifleman under General Patton in the 47th Infantry. He was also a Stable Supervisor and prepared the horses for Special Service Horse Shows. He was honorably discharged in 1947 with the Army of Occupation and World War II Victory Medal.
Before entering the Army he was eemployed by the Brandywine Stables Race Track. After his discharge he was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Carpenter, III. He was a dedicated employee who worked on their estate for over 50 years. He also worked part-time for Dr. Nora O'Brien taking care of her horse "She Wee" who he loved as his own.
Joseph was also a dedicated softball coach. He had a passion for softball and even had a softball league named after him, "The Joe Flynn League". His greatest enjoyments in life were watching his great grand nephews play baseball, and his great grand niece play softball. Joseph was a compassionate caring man that would do anything for anybody. He also was an animal lover and also enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Thomas, Harvey, Robert, Paul, Francis, and Norman. He is survived by his sister, Mary Giliberto and her husband Joseph; his nieces, Linda Kuratle and her husband Gus, Esther Pawley and her husband John; and nephew, William Jones amongst many other nieces and nephews; grand niece, Stephanie Treml and husband Sean; grand nephew, Gus V. Kuratle, Jr.; great grand nephews, Sean and Eric Treml, and Austin Kuratle; and great grand niece, Emily Treml.

Service and burial is private.
