Obituary

Joseph Francis Willis, known affectionately as Joe, passed away on August 17, 2024, at the age of 67 in Wilmington, DE. Born on July 14, 1957, in Claymont, DE, Joe's life was marked by a vibrant and colorful journey.

Joe wore many hats throughout his life, each role played with wild joy and an unmistakable zest for life. Joe found true joy while working at Toys' R Us, where he built bikes and taught children how to ride, bringing smiles to many young faces.

His personal life was filled with the love and chaos of a large family. Joe's deep love for his family was evident in every action. He is survived by his wife Cindy Lynn Willis, his sons Ryder Blue Willis (and his wife, Cameron Wooley) and Joshua Stephenson Willis, the nieces and nephews that he completely loved and cherished and the extensive family circle that embraced him wholeheartedly.

Joe's hobbies were as eclectic as his careers. An avid reader, he had a particular fondness for Stephen King and Dean Koontz, with "The Dark Tower" series being his favorite. His love for music was evident in his preference for artists like Cat Stevens and The Moody Blues. A sports enthusiast, Joe loved his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Green Bay Packers. Additionally, he had a creative side, enjoying quilting and sewing in his quieter moments. He also had a deep love for any film including the great Sidney Poitier, with his favorite film being To Sir, With Love. Likewise, he was an avid Trekkie who loved The Next Generation.

He will be remembered through the stories he told, the lives he touched, and the love he shared. His legacy will continue in the memories of those who loved him and the community that so warmly accepted him.
