Joyce Lloyd Maack
Age 94 of Elsmere, Delaware
Passed away peacefully on April 27th, 2026
Joyce grew up in Wilmington and was a proud graduate of Marshallton Elementary and Conrad High School, class of 1950.
After graduation, she went to work as a lab technician for Hercules Experimental Station. In 1959 she became a foster parent, fostering several children until 1962. Joyce discovered her true calling was helping others and answered this call by becoming a nurse. In 1966 she graduated from Brown Vocational School of Practical Nursing and worked as an LPN through various hospitals in Wilmington. Joyce found her permanent home at the Wilmington VA Hospital. She continued her education and earned her RN degree from Delaware Technical and Community College. After dedicating her life to the service of others she retired in 1995.
Joyce was proceeded in death by her husband of 24 years, Otto Maack, who passed away in 1991. She is survived by her Stepson Tom and his wife Paula and their children Ryan and Shea, her siblings; June who lives in Naples Florida, Richard who lives in San Diego California, and Noel who lives in Smryna Delaware. She always kept in touch with her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews living across the country.
Growing up in a musical family, Joyce loved to play the organ and accordion and sang for many years in her church choir. She was a devout Christian and lifelong member of Christ the Cornerstone UMC, formerly Christ Church UMC. Joyce was a pillar of the church community, volunteering in many capacities. She was still folding bulletins for Sunday service at the age of 93. Joyce left a lasting impact on those who attended her Bible Study Classes held for years in her home.
Joyces kindness shown to people extended to the many stray cats and dogs welcomed into her home over the years. Her legacy lives on in the work she did for others and she will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Service for Joyce on Wednesday, May 20, at 11:30am at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington DE. 19805. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. Internment will take place at Delaware Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
