Judith W. Dickinson
Age 80 of Wilmington
Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 20, 2024.
Judy was the eldest of three daughters born to the late Roy and Hilda White. She was a proud graduate of Newark High School. Judy later joined DuPont where she would spend several years working as a lab technician. She married Joseph Dickinson and together they began a family in Wilmington. Later, the family moved to Orlando, Florida.
After the passing of her husband, she moved her family back to Delaware so that her children could be closer to family. During this time, Judy began a new career in education. She taught at R.O.M.P. Elementary with close friends Agnes Hebling and Pat Cosgrove and in the Head Start program, where she helped provide opportunity to children who may have otherwise fallen behind. She also taught for many years in the Brandywine School District.
Judy's passion for teaching was evident in her love for her students and in the pride she took in helping others achieve their goals. She cherished her role as mother to her own children and was a compassionate role model to her students. Judy was an animal lover who welcomed many dogs (and a few cats) into her home, where they were considered part of the family. She greatly valued nature, public education, public media, and the arts; and she was proud to support charities devoted to these causes throughout her life.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Dickinson; sister, Pamela White; and nephew, Jeff Stormer.
She is survived by her children, Jody Milburn and her husband, Wit, and Jeff Dickinson and his wife, Jackie; her two grandsons, J.C. and Jaxon; her sister, Jennifer Knight; and nephews, Rodney Stormer and his wife Sherry, and Lee Butterworth.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service for Judy at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 101 W. 6th St., New Castle, DE 19720 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am-11:00am. Interment will take place at Glebe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions in Judy's name to Defenders of Wildlife or to plant a tree in her honor.
