RESCHEDULED SERVICE TIME:
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R. C. Church, 901 New Rd., Elsmere, on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 am. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 am. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Newark.
Age 55, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 of natural causes. She was born on September 28, 1957 and raised in Vilone Village, Elsmere, where she currently resided. Karen was the daughter of the late George F. and Anne S. (Dougherty) Cunningham. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine A. Dunkelberger, and brother-in-law, G. Michael Gold.
Karen was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi R. C. Church where she graduated from the parish school in 1971. She was then a 1975 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School where she was a National Merit Scholar, receiving a full four year scholarship to the University of Delaware. She graduated from the U of D in 1979 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science with a French Minor. Karen then received a Juris Doctorate, graduating in 1983 from the John Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA, passing the Delaware Bar exam the following year. Karen was employed for many years by JP Morgan Chase Bank.
She was an avid reader and spent many hours perusing the shelves at the Elsmere Library. She enjoyed spending Sunday dinners with her family, usually at her sister Nancy's house. Karen will be remembered for her generosity of spirit as well as her great intellect.
Karen is survived by her sisters, Nancy Talabisco and husband Paul F. of Elsmere, Lynne C. Kalinowski and husband Joseph F. of Wilmington, Mary C. Bedwell and husband Donald A. of Elkton, MD, and Kristin J. Cunningham (Gold), of Alexandria, VA; her brothers, George F. Cunningham Jr. and wife Gail A. of Wilmington, and Stephen J. Cunningham and wife Deborah B. of Elsmere; her brother-in-law, Gary B. Dunkelberger of Newark; 13 nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
