Obituary

Karen Lee Gallagher, a professional dancer and retired business owner, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2021.

Karen was a devoted wife and mother, successful business leader, and active community member. She is survived by her three children, Dana Tasker and her husband, Christian, Kim Gallagher-Moses and her husband, John, and Michael Gallagher and his sweetheart, Katie; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and four grand puppies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and James R. "Chick" Gallagher, the love of her life and husband of 35 years.

Born on October 1, 1953 and raised in the outskirts of Philadelphia, Karen was the only daughter of the late Park and Ginny Benedict. She graduated from Clifton Heights High School, and as a young adult she worked for The Evening Bulletin in Philadelphia and owned and operated her own business, Karen's Silk Floral Creations.

Karen, who studied and taught dance to adults and children, was a community-minded individual who used her talents to further the creative arts throughout her lifetime. While studying at the Cowanova Studios - School of Russian and Italian Techniques in Philadelphia, she embraced all forms of dance. Later, while living in Hawaii in her thirties, she studied Hula, mastering the movements and gestures that are at the heart of this dance form.

In 1992, Chick and Karen founded BNI Delaware Valley Regions. Under their leadership, BNI Delaware Valley Regions grew to become one of the top performing regions in the world. Karen and Chick were honored consecutively by BNI for developing the top grossing franchise and having the highest net growth in members.

Through her business and private partnerships, Karen supported numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Wilmington VA Medical Center, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Purple Heart, Habitat for Humanity, and many others.
