Kathleen Burns
Age 86, of Wilmington, DE and Elkton, MD, on May 30, 2013 at Lorelton Assisted Living Center.
Kathleen was the daughter of William J. and Kathryn (Landers) Reader of Wilmington, and a graduate of Wilmington High and St. Francis Nursing School. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in New Castle from 1960-1990 and later St. Rose of Lima in Chesapeake City, MD.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Paul J. Burns, and her sisters, Geraldine and Ann (Pappa). She is survived by her eight children, Paul (Nubia), Michael, Francis, Patrick (Mary) , Gene (Alison), and James Burns, Maureen Johnson (Jim), and Suzanne Brady (Mike); 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Kathleen was a person of devotion, humility, and faith, and faced adversity always with grace and strength.
The Burnses wish to express their gratitude to the staffs of Lorelton Assisted Living Center, Vitas Hospice, and Visiting Angels for the extraordinary level of care and concern for their mother in her final months, to Dr. Ina Li, and to Kathleen's daughters-in-law, Mary Suffoletta and Alison Hirschel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle R. C. Church, 4th & Bancroft Pkwy., Wilmington on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 12 Noon. Friends may call at the church from 10-11:30 am Wednesday morning. Interment will take place the following morning Thursday, June 6, at 10:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, 301 Lock St., Chesapeake City, MD.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Benedictine Sisters, 14299 Benedictine Ln., Ridgely, MD 21660.
