Kathleen Claire Byrne

In the early hours of Monday, July 26, 2021, Kathleen Byrne (72) of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully at her home.

Kathie, loving wife and grandmother, was born on November 13, 1948, in the Forty Acres of Wilmington to the late Daniel Mahoney and Evelyn Russell Mahoney. They moved to Elsmere in 1953 where she attended Corpus Christi and graduated in 1966. Kathie spent most of her professional career as an Executive Assistant, where she was affectionately known for NOT getting coffee for executives. She was most recently retired as a Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster.

Kathie, soon to be known as the Empress, met Páidín at Cromwell's Tavern in 1999 and they later married at Wilmington Country Club in 2001. Over the next 20 years they were no stranger to weekends in New York and enjoyed multiple trips to Ireland and Italy, Kathie's favorite destinations. She will be remembered by friends for their fun travels to Stockbridge and weekends at the Bay.

While travel, music, entertainment, and dancing were an intricate part of Kathie's life, she was most passionate about her family, and loved spending time with her three grandsons whom she adored — Justin Oliver, Quin Turner, and Richard Turner.

With all in her life, she shared her love, humor, compassion, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm for life, openly and generously. Kathie was a woman who knew better than most that life was meant for living and never missed a moment to dance, even in the rain.

She is survived by her husband, Páidín Byrne, brother - Jack Mahoney (Doreen), sister - Carol McCann (Daniel), brother - Dennis Mahoney (Ken), and lifelong loyal and loving friends, Rosita 'Mike' Abel, Eve Powell, and Nancy Pote.
