Obituary
Passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 27, 2014.
Leona was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a mother to all her children's friends, who lovingly call her "Maw". She spent most of her time in the kitchen. Leona especially loved cooking Sunday dinners for her extended family, even if there wasn't always room for everyone at the table.
She was an avid churchgoer and a member of Elsmere Presbyterian Church until her illness.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers, 2 sisters, and loving husband, of 58 years, Carl. She is survived by her children; Nancy Lee Rambo and David Marshall of Elsmere, DE, Carl J. Franklin Jr. and Rosemary Gail, of Bear, DE, Steven R. Franklin of West Haven, CT, Raymond C. Franklin, and Kimberly Ann Franklin Mullins and Joseph J. Sr., of Newark, DE, with whom she resided with for the past 10 years; her 8 grandchildren, Paul Rambo and wife, Samantha, Tracey Rambo, Ryan Franklin and wife, Joanna, Lara Turner and husband, Kevin, Deborah Faulkner and husband, Shane, Joseph J. Mullins Jr. and fiancé, Tori Grabauskas, Jonathan Mullins and fiancé, Sheri LaRue, and Alex Franklin; 11 great-grandchildren, David and Sammi Jo Rambo, Travis Rambo, Collin and Cameron Franklin, Nicole Turner, Anthony and Brianna Faulkner, Haylie and Fallon Mullins, and Beau LaRue; and her sister, Marie Hathaway of Knoxville, TN.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Interment will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, 3300 Lancaster Ave., Wilm., DE. In lieu of flowers please make contribution to Compassionate Care Hospice of Delaware, 702- B Kirkwood HWY., Wilm., DE 19805.
