Age 89, died peacefully at home in New Castle, September 2, 2013.
Lew graduated from William Penn High School where he was a star athlete. He worked at Bellanca Aircraft in New Castle before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps and in World War II rose to rank of Master Sergeant serving in Italy. In 1996, after 38 years of service he retired from Swift & Co. where he had sales responsibilities for the Delmarva area. Lew was a faithful Phillies fan and coached in Little League for several years.
He was the son of Nathaniel and Anna May (Sharp) Watson. Lew was preceded in death by his son, Christopher. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Elaine (Ryan) Watson; son, Lewis Jr and wife Paulette; and his children, Robert and Dawn Briggs; Christopher's wife, Sharon Watson and their children, Christopher, David, and Philip; two great grandchildren, Bryan and Laura Briggs; his brother, Herbert ; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R.C.Church, 5th & Harmony Sts., New Castle, on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 11 am. Friends may call at the church from 9:30-10:30 am Wednesday morning. Burial in St. Peter the Apostle R. C. Church Cemetery.
