Lydia Immediato Leonetti
July 25, 1918
April 27, 2010
Lydia Leonetti was co-owner of the family bakery, Leonetti's Bakery. Lydia ran the business with her husband Alexander and their two sons, Joseph and Alexander.
Lydia Leonetti will be remembered as a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, neighbor, friend and employer. Her family was most important to her and her way of showing her love was to cook and feed them. Sunday dinners were a family tradition with her sons and daughter and their families present. Her house was always open and the kitchen table was ready with a full, home made Italian meal. Friends and family could visit anytime and were welcomed and treated as royalty. Neighbors, nieces, and nephews couldn't wait to go to "Aunt Lilly's" to eat. She adored her brothers and their children.
Lydia Leonetti ran her bakery business as she ran her house. It was spotless and only the best ingredients were used for baking and cooking. She was a tireless worker and she expected her employees to be the same. She would tell salesgirls, "If you have time to lean you have time to clean." She was loved by her customers who followed her from 14th and DuPont Street to Elsmere. Alexander and Lydia Leonetti lived in Vilone Village in Elsmere for 10 years before moving to Woodland Park. Later when they opened their bakery in Elsmere, it felt just like home.
Lydia suffered a stroke in 1997, shortly after the closing of their family bakery business, Leonetti's Bakery. She lived with her daughter Evaline for four years and has been a resident at Gilpin Hall Nursing Home since 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander A. Leonetti; sisters, Mary and Edith Immediato; and brother, Italo Immediato. She is survived by her son, Joseph Leonetti and Margaret Landis, son, Alexander Leonetti and wife Teresa; daughter, Evaline Alessandrini and husband Gene; grandchildren, Evaline and husband Tom Alloy, Gene and wife Gina, Nick Alessandrini and wife Angie, Terre Taylor and husband Brian, Dina Payton and husband Andrew, Joseph Leonetti and wife Suzanne, and Stacey Bahlouli; great grandchildren, Toni, Alex, Michael Alloy, Gene David Natale, Nicholas, Charlsie Alessandrini, Alessandra and William Taylor; brothers, Hugo and Nino Immediato; Goddaughter, Vicki Winton; and many nieces and nephews.
The service and entombment will be private. The family would like to invite relatives and friends to join them at a Memorial Mass to celebrate Lydia's life at Corpus Christi R. C. Church, 901 New Rd., Elsmere, on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.
