Marianne Joan Gillen, age 65, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on April 10, 2026.

Born on January 6, 1961, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Marianne moved to Delaware with her family during her childhood and grew to cherish her new home. A proud graduate of William Penn High School, she furthered her education at the University of Delaware before embarking on a successful career in the financial industry. Over the course of many years, she dedicated her professional life to several banking and brokerage firms throughout the state.

Marianne was the embodiment of warmth, love, and devotion. She inspired cherished traditions with her family, including baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren, while instilling steadfast family values that she believed should be passed down through generations. She always worked to make sure her grandchildren were happy and cared for. Her family was her greatest pride, and she took immense joy in celebrating their achievements, from school projects to Little League awards, preserving every memento as a testament to their successes.

She was very intelligent and her spirited personality, was defined by a delightful sense of humor. Marianne brought joy to all who knew her, and she had a unique ability to make those around her laugh. Her humor was truly one of a kind.

She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Monica Gillen as well as her siblings, Susan Chopko and John Gillen.

She is survived by her devoted son Michael Gillen and daughter-in-law Jill, along with her beloved grandchildren, Bianca, Jackson, and Thea. She is also survived by nephews Matthew and Christopher Chopko, as well as many loving friends and extended family members.

Services will be held privately. Those wishing to to honor her memory may do so in their own way, or through a donation to the ASPCA.

Marianne had a strong kinship with animals, especially her beloved cats, which brought her endless happiness and companionship throughout her life. Please consider donating to the ASPCA in her honor.
